[2.0.14] Crash when starting the game

When I launch the game I get an error:

Failed to load mods: Failed to load sprite - loading bitmap failed: InvalidParameter (2).: __space-age__/graphics/terrain/vulcanus/lava-hot.png

Restart does not help (when restarting, a similar error occurs, but with a different file). Disabling mods doesn't help. Reinstalling the game does not help. Verification of files in Steam is successful, but doesn't help.

Hello, thanks for the report.
Unfortunatelly, it seems to me there is something wrong with your PC. Is your computer otherwise stable? Don't you experience crashes in other applications or blue screen of death in Windows?

As for Factorio, you can try to add

Code: Select all

--single-thread-loading

launch option. In General tab in Factorio properties in Steam Library, there is a text box where you can type in launch options.

There are no problems with the computer. All applications and games work stably, I haven't seen BSOD for several years probably. I played Factorio for almost 200 hours and never had such problems. The error occurred after updating to version 2.0.

Thanks for the additional information. Did the launch option change help in any way?
Also you wrote "Restart does not help" and I understood it as rebooting computer didn't help, so I didn't sugest it. Have you tried to reboot your computer?

Additionally are you able to view these failing sprite files in the Windows image viewer? Should be at these locations for you:
- C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Factorio/data/elevated-rails/graphics/entity/artillery-wagon/artillery-wagon-sloped-base-2.png
- C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Factorio/data/space-age/graphics/terrain/vulcanus/lava-hot.png

Flag --single-thread-loading does not help. I get the same error.

Yes, I have rebooted my computer several times. No result.

Yes, I found these sprite files in the specified directories. Files are opened in Windows.

I also noticed that sometimes (maybe once in ten) the game crashes with a dump. Maybe this will help you in some way? Attached files.

How healthy is your PCs storage? Can you please check with e.g. https://diskovery.io/ e.g. if there are any read errors? Are you able to launch Factorio from a stand-alone install by downlading it from our website?

Another problem could be your system memory, which you can check with this tool https://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

OMG! I found a scenario where Factorio crashes with an error! If Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer is specified as the audio output source in Windows, the game crashes. If I specify a different output device, everything works correctly.

You were right, the problem is in my system. I don't use Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer and will just specify another audio output device.
