[QoL] Switch to lock manual crafting (for "Lazy Bastard" achievement)

Post by skyman »

TL;DR
Add a tri-state switch (or buttons) to disable/enable manual crafting for whole faction/only others in the faction. Mainly for "Lazy Bastard" achievement, but could also be used as a challenge.
Why?
Theoretically you can edit permissions to toggle manual crafting, but this doesn't seems like polished way to do this, especially that you can mess up things by accident.
What?

A better way would be adding a tri-state switch (or buttons) with the following:
  • default to have manual crafting enabled,
  • upon first click lock manual crafting for the player's faction, but not for the invoker,
  • after second click lock manual crafting for the entire faction,
  • next click unlock again with a warning dialog.
The tri-state switch (or buttons) should be visible in the Achievements' list AND in the pinned achievement on the side of the screen. Possibly there should be pop-up dialog once you pin Lazy Bastard achievement, asking if you want auto-lock manual crafting and where to toggle it later on.

i have better idea. when Lazy Bastard achievement is pinned and at least one crafter was made, a "are you sure you want to manually craft this?" popup must appear. but if this craft will void the achievement, it will outright prevent you from crafting, saying "unpin Lazy Bastard achievement first"
Doing nothing since i was born.

Good Luck!

It may be marginally faster to implement, but knowing people have muscle memory, confirmation dialog will be very annoying very fast. Few buttons doesn't seem that much work for devs, but I believe it will be much more enjoyable for players if there is no confirmation dialog every time they try to manually craft something.

I think you don't need confirmation dialog for that, devs can add the flying text next to the mouse, and that's it. Something like CaveJohson376, "unpin Lazy Bastard achievement first before manual craft"

Read "Why?".
Yes, I did read. And then I added a link to an existing discussion, with more information including further details about using the Permissions system (with a screenshot!), as well as a second method to achieve the stated goal (un-bind the Control). I do not disagree that it would be nice to have as part of the game for doing a Challenge Run. But, in the more-than-likely scenario that this Idea is not integrated into the game I believe it is more useful for fellow forum-goers that this type of knowledge is shared, easily found by search engines, and the discussion does not devolve into "Wube sux for abandoning the game!!! Why won't they change it to add the ONE THING I WANT".... when there are already several ways to do that.

Good Luck, and Have Fun!

I'm worried with that solution about multiplayer. Everybody would have to agree to have that achievement pinned and even then you won't know for sure if everyone actually did it (or didn't unpin by accident); it could be turned on once everyone have that achievement pinned, but then what about late-joiners? Would their connection disable that safety or disable that joiner crafting ability and auto-pin Lazy Bastard achievement?

If so, why not just have simple button there on the pinned achievement tab for toggling that setting and showing its current status (along with permission to toggle it assigned by default to the server owner)?

...you are describing the the Permissions System referenced previously.

Implementing an entirely separate system just for this case seems excessive.

So you didn't read or understand "Why?" after all.

What I meant is that there is no reason game can't use permission for that in the backend, but UI shouldn't force you to use text command and then search for that specific function next to others that have nothing to do with this achievement. :geek:

Rather there should be simple button to do that for you, in the place you're the most likely to visit if you want to monitor progress in that regard, possibly also for others at the same time, so you and your friends can't screw this up and need to reload the game.
