Question about achievements and playing with friends

Yesterday I've asked this question on r/factorio

I've been playing a game with three other friends since the DLC came out last fall (damn 1 year already...).

We've been playing whenever the four of us can get together. We've had all the steam achievements since the beginning, but when we got to Aquilo, only me (I am the host) and another friend had the “Aquilo achievement". The other 2 players they didnt get anything

Is there a reason for that?

And I got this reply

you need to have played a certain percentage of the gametime in a multiplayer game to be eligible, two of your friends likely didn't meet that.

Is it true?

If so this, it is a bit unfair for them because the extra time I spent on the server was only for testing some stuff out, mess around with the game (I've spent 5 hours building a race track), etc. They participated as much as I did in the construction of the factory. I know there are more important things in life than Steam achievements, but it would be nice if there is a solution for that.

The answer you received is correct. It is something that exist in game and is likely the reason for not receiving the achievement.

It does sound unfair to you friends , but if you continue playing together, they will eventually receive it, the amount of time they missed will become a smaller and smaller % of the total game time.

The reason it is a thing afaik is also 'fairness', if you join a very late game gigantic factory in multiplayer game , you don't receive all the achievement right away.

I think the threshold is that a player need to have stayed at least 50% of the total game time, but not sure at all.

It is 50%. If you open the achievements window it will tell you if you are eligible and if not, the needed playtime.

By achievements window, you mean in steam ? Or in the game ?
