Dynamic message display via circuits

Post by Green Cat »

I start reverse, the final product will be similar to nixes tubes with regards to numbers but the image will be the signal and the message from the display panel to change based on different circuit color

Let's say i want to show that I have 100000 Steel plates and the message to be "To much, need recycling" (<- Fulgora)

This means that there will be 7 or more display panels. 6 (or more that will just say 00001) that will display the amount (aka the amount the signal has) as an image (or signal i guess? man this is so confusing... ideea is that signal 1, signal 0 six times), and one more signal that is the signal itself, aka steel plate signal, as an image so we can easily and quickly tell what is showen.

All this can be done if the display panel has drop boxes to change it's mod.

One drop box is for the value, aka the numbers. When this is on, there will be just one single box: how many digits. So it the above exemple it's number 6. Meaning that if i place 7, and i connect them all via circuit, only 6 will work. However, if i set it to 10, and only have 6, then it will show an error because missing display panels (or the nixies tube situation where nothing is shown since the display is missing).

So again, this is a new mod for the display panel. There is no signal no nothing, not even the messages. Because it only has one purpuse, to show the value. I mean, ok, if we can change settings like colour or similar that would be an amazing QoL, especially since sometimes, due to background, the message is not easy to read. But for now, i will only suggest the bare minimum.

The second new function is to show the signal it recives. Because for whatever reason the display panels works as a decider combinator insted of just displaying the signal it recives as a displayed image. Aka we tick on this box, any signal we send, will be show on the screen, absolut NO complication, no circumstances or anything else because it's a display panel and not a combinator. Like why does this not already exist by default? we have decider combinator so why was the display panel work like a combinator insted of making it user friendly???

However, please keep in mind that for any fine tuning, the Decider combinator does exist to adress such fine tunings. So a decider combinator might be needed because it makes no sense that we need to manyally fill the display panel with condition when we can just easily copy paste parameter decision combinators.

And from here it's nothing complicated that doesen't exist.

Aka, depending on criteria, a signal is send. Via the new setting, the display panel will show the value of the signal (aka count of items let's say), and the display panel that works as a panel that displays the signal as an image, will show not only the image, but (Alt view on) the message because of this new function is to display information. Also this message thing is only compatible via combinators (since they have this message sector). Meaning if you connect it to a power pole, roboport, radar, so on, the message will NOT be send <- this is just to avoid complication and possible ups overloads since the whole suggestion is to display different images, numbers, and messages based on different critaria, without you needing to create a set for each situation.

BTW: why does the display panel not have a simple tick box, that, no matter what, it will simple show the 1st circuit signal as an image. No configuration. No nothing. We just tick that tick box, connect a cable, and done. absolut not futher manual work
