[0.11.22] Command Control - Remote viewing and management

Post by ljdp » Sat Jul 04, 2015 10:04 pm

Command control allows you to remotely view and manage parts of your factory.

It uses radars so it doesn't add any new items. When you walk up to a radar you will be presented with a GUI in the top left. This will contain a list of all the other radars, which you can click to enable remote viewing. When remote viewing you have a different inventory and cannot move the viewport away from the target radar. You can still interact with, construct and destroy objects.

This was originally part of my WIP mod, homeworld. It seemed useful in it's own right so I split it off.

Note, if you activate this mod on an existing map it will not have a list of existing radars. You need to destroy and re-place each radar you want on the network.

This is an awesome idea. I will be adding this my list of must have mods. I like how it just re-purposes radars instead of adding more items and recipes.

You beat me to the punch!

But I wouldn't use radars as surveillance method. I got my own idea. In fact, it would be a whole set of game mechanic.

First, I need to finish my initial mod project.

I just hit a bug. "Error while running the event handler: __commandcontrol__/radar_system.lua:33:LuaEntity API call when LuaEntity was invalid". It happens if you mine or destroy a radar when it had a gui open.

Also, a feature request, can you add the radars to the list when the player walks by them so we don't have to pickup and put down all the radars in the game?

Fixed in 1.0.1.

This is neat, and will certainly save me from hoping into my pocket train to go to different outposts.

Just a thought, wouldn't it make more sense to use a roboport instead of radar? The reasoning is a roboport also has local inventory and arms (e.g. bots) to perform the action.

true !
although, using the radar to get sight of another place seems more logical !

also, what reach do we have when beeing on remote view ?

Awesome, thanks for the fix! I'm really loving this mod and have been trying to use it on my main save but I'm hitting some other issues and have some requests (sorry!)

I added all the radars on my map and the window went off my screen. Some sort of list management is going to be needed, either by being able to decide whether to track a radar when you put it down or some sort of filter/pagination. To work around this I tried giving radars short name and noticed that if two radars end up with the same random backer name you can't rename them separately.

it would also be really nice to be able to pull up the gui from anywhere. It makes logical sense that you need to be near a radar to use the system but being able to jump around the map and quickly see an attack in progress is just to useful to lose every time you step away from your base.

Great idea,

should be combinded together with the Fatcontroller into the Vanilla game. https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =86&t=4504

Would be awesome to add items to a requesterbox to bring it with the train to your position far away from your mainbase.

EDIT:
Is it possible to disable the Playerinventory on remotestations ?

I think it would be more realistic if we only can interact with the logisticsystem. For example to configure the requesterboxes or change requesterboxes to providerboxes and change the smartinserters.

This is the thread for Factorio 0.11.x, for Factorio 0.12.x go to
[MOD 0.12.x] Command Control - Remote view/manage (v1.1.1)

Although I don't know if the version posted there works with 0.12.11+.
