Any thoughts from the devs on implementing this in vanilla or is it better left to mods?

Currently not.
My opinion: The use-case is important, but not frequent enough to increase implementation-priority.
And there is not the really need for this, cause the mods are pretty enough to be happy.

Filters for the deconstruction planner will be a thing in 0.15, as posted by Rseding91 in this reddit thread.
Not sure how/if this is also applicable for blueprints.
