Thanks for the info!
On closer inspection, I have noticed, that this is affected by the chosen language. The "wasted" area highlighted in my post above does *not* appear when the game is set to English, but *does* appear when the game is set to German.
I guess this thread should be moved to Bug reports then please, moderator, thanks!
Here I provide 2 screenshots for comparison (4K @ 200% UI scale):
