Once you are no more a new player, you always go through the same process, Play Game > Load Game > Choose Load and then you play.
It would make sense to have load latest save as a first menu entry since this is what you do every time you open Factorio.

Something like "Resume Game" to instantly load the newest save.
Btw: In my eyes the word "game" refers to the piece of software called "Factorio".
I would call it maybe "Playthrough".

But would that button sync mods if you changed them in between? Or does it load the last save with the mods currently enabled?
It wouldn't hurt to have it, but i see no point in an "Resume Game" button, since there can be multiple possible savestates the
player wants to continue.

Well, if this ever becomes reality, there could be two buttons, one for the latest named save and one for the latest autosave, both only from worlds with the same mods as you have rn and showing name of the save, with preview on hover.

No.. This is just going to confuse people and give a false sense of what a "game" is.
If you last played a multiplayer map, would it connect to that again? (And fail if offline), or just keep playing on the local save file? Would the player understand what happened?
Should it load autosave or the last manual save? Will people begin exiting the game without saving because they think it always saves the game sort of like Minecraft does with Save and Exit?
At most it would be an opt-in advanced options thing or whatever, so it's only there for people who understand the game and what to customize settings
