What?
Simple. When sitting in a train, you can select a piece of track on the map, and the train would route to this point as if there were a station there. As soon as the train reaches the destination it switches to manual mode. This ability would only be available if a player is on the train.
Why?
Not only does this allow a player to use train pathing for unfinished parts of the train network, it also allows the player to safely navigate through a congested network without requiring "passenger stations" everywhere.

I agree that such a feature (or at least a similar feature) would be nice.

Can I add one to the list: train to player

if the selected player is within say 50 tiles of a train track the train will path to that spot if it can meaning that building trains could follow the player around for big projects (within reason) and can be set to leave if player moves out of range (to seamlessly resupply) or if fuel gets below 50% as extra conditions on when to go to what stations.

This feature has not been implemented yet in 0.16, has it?

I tried control-clicking on the map, as stated in Factorio Friday Facts #212, but it did not add any temporary stop to the schedule. Also, I was unable to find any such feature mentioned in the changelog of 0.16. I guess we will have to wait for 0.17?

I think it will be a part of GUI update planned for 0.17 as it is obviously GUI related. It was not introduced in 0.16.
