As I expected... I like the game how it is now.
I attempted to provide a constructive feedback on your destructive ideas :)

1. That actually does remove the intermediate steps for the Belts, which reduces factory complexity, which reduces the planning needs and resulting fun.
You can do what you want right now.
Simply place more basic belts in parallel, then! That will do exactly what you want (It just stays realistic about it :P)

2. Sure, tabs, sorting and searching in the crating screen would be useful

3-1. You are building faster belts by hand? Just get a remote factory that will provide them for you, ready to be grabbed.
BTW: If you were to craft the faster belts from slower belts directly on the field when placing them, it would extremely slow you down.
The "upgrade" would take time, you know...

3-2. Coal is not everywhere, I am impatiently waiting for trains, that would replace my coal supply belt.
I don't see any positive results of this "wireless coal automining" feature. The game would get considerably shorter, that's about it.

4. I favour a consistent game + mods for taking shortcuts.

Interesting, but I never had real trouble finding research, using the cross-research links ( research buttons in research info are clickable)

I haven't played much, so the crafting tabs actually slowed me down. I still don't yet fully understand the meaning of each tab.

Again a very old post I stumbled upon that has been implemented. ;)
Mods: Shortcuts for 1.1, ick's Sea Block, ick's vanilla tweaks
Tools: Atom language pack
Text quickly seems cold and unfriendly. Be careful how you write and interpret what others have written.
