But there is no information on this button that it will delete exactly what you want to delete. That's the whole point of the issue, not the point that players are too dumb to not understand the function of the button. It's really not intuitive when the button which deletes the folder is located inside this folder, not outside of it. I don't know any other file manager that has this weird structure. Also this brings us to another issue that we cannot delete empty blueprints right away - in order to open the blueprint and be able to hit the delete button you have to fill it with random stuff first.

Wouldn't it be more logical to make a unified deletion function outside? For example in the player's inventory panel?

Except that only works for the ones in the Game Blueprints section, the global shared (right hand side) is save-independent, you delete that they are gone, period.

Just lost a good 30 hours of tinkering and designing layouts. They were in the global section because I was specifically designing on a test map for use in other games. The lack of confirmation or undo, in this particular case, was a pretty poor oversight. Fortunately that's out of character for the devs, just hope they fix it fast.

The devs are aware of it, and the last I know, still maintain their current position:

https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comme ... y/djnsut7/

We need a undo button.

For multiplayer if one player deletes a blueprint all loose it. It should really be possible for a player to resurrect a blueprint someone else deletes. A trashcan where one can simply drag blueprints and books out of again would be good.

Could also be used to delete instead of the current icon. The blueprint library is mostly drag&drop except for the delete part. A trashcan to drop items into would be more consistent.

Instead of a confirmation dialog, I'd suggest making it so that if you have a blueprint in hand and you click the trash can, it deletes the blue print.

As for when you delete the blueprint book, I'd suggest an undo button (like GitHub's delete pull request button), or altering the trash can icon to include a label like "Delete Book". Here's why (ux.stackexchange.com)..

Just had this issue myself. but there's a way to get it back on single player. load a previous save with the book, copy string, load most recent save and import blueprint book string. problem solved:)

That will be fun for everybody if you are the server.

Bump. I've done this twice today.

Dropping a blueprint on the 'cloud' book's trashcan to delete it would be ideal, but I would happily take a 'This is not the delete you are looking for' warning.

Frankly a delete just being put into a trash can in current map's blueprints then after x time it vanishes so if you make a mistake or clear the wrong blueprint you have x time to fish it out again.

Going to necromance this, same thing happened to me, all my "economy blueprints" for different factories for useful items (science packs, circuits, furnace layouts etc) gone...

Verify with user before deletion of blueprint books.

Post by npuldon »

This has happened to me twice now and it is really sad and there is no way to get them back even if you don't save the game because the blueprint library is not tied to the save. A small recheck with the user before deleting a blueprint book would be great. It happened both times while experimenting with blueprint designs in a test world. The delete button for both the blueprint and the book are on the screen at the same time and I click the wrong button and there goes hours of work.

Please consider my request. Thank you

[Koub] Merged 5 or 6 identical suggestions into a single thread
Also, the devs' answer back then :
Rseding91 wrote: Mon Jun 26, 2017 7:16 pm we've talked about this internally and decided that for now we aren't going to add any confirmation to the delete button.

We feel that the fact it's red (no other buttons are red) and has a trash can icon is enough to convey the fact that it's going to delete the book/blueprint/deconstruction planner you have open.

There ARE TWO red buttons though, one for the book that is open and one for the single blueprint itself. Since both windows with one red button each are active and can be clicked on at the same time you can click the wrong one by accident and everything in the book is gone, forever. There is no way to get it back even without saving.

With how insanely detail oriented the devs are, I'm blown away this hasn't been implemented.

Just ran across this thread, after you guessed it, nuking my entire BP book (by accident of course). Loaded last auto-save, but the BP's books are independent of the saves...

Checked the roaming/factorio directory for the BP book backup (as noted on some reddit threads), to find no such file exists.

Super disappointing that this is missing, as it's such an obvious oversight, and so simple to implement. Sure I probably won't make that mistake again, but how many others will?!

An alternative to a yes/no box: Hovering the cursor over the delete button highlights in red what it's going to delete.

That's not an alternative. People will still click it by accident.

The fix is to have undo restore BPs too.

I just deleted my book when I wanted to delete one BP i had highlighted within it. A modal that says "Are you sure you wish to delete "Book: {MyBook}", (or for blueprints "Blueprint: {MyBlueprint}") would be nice.

(I would caution against labeling the former "Blueprint book" in this instance as some people will stop reading at the word "blueprint"...)

(EDIT: This was on 0.17.43)

I know this doesn't help those that have deleted their blueprints by accident, but backups is the key to anything you value on a computer. There is a blueprints file in the main directory of Factorio. Regularly back that file up to a separate location (separate drive would be best, or cloud location). You might also do that with the saves folder.
