Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Well, it doesn't run on liquids, it runs on solids, therefore in my opinion it should be named Burner locomotive. I would like it to perhaps be named steam locomotive, but it doesn't use steam.

+1 on this.

I searched all items for a coal engine because i just said to me - damn i have no diesel (oil) yet.
The name is really distracting.
Greetings steinio

Maybe the devs still dream of implementing diesel and other liquid fuels (IIRC it was discussed at some point, although not sure if actually planned)
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Well but there can be a burner locomotive. And when they implement, there is a diesel locomotive, and maybe later there will be electrical locomotive.sillyfly wrote:Maybe the devs still dream of implementing diesel and other liquid fuels (IIRC it was discussed at some point, although not sure if actually planned)

Until the devs make another fuel/energy system, should be called burner locomotive for consistency.

or just "locomotive". Since there is only one type (at the moment) it doesn't seem necessary to add a qualifier.
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Diesel engines that used pulverized coal as fuel have existed in the past.
Not so sure about diesel engines using pulverized telephone poles though. That seems like a bit of a stretch.
I've got a steam locomotive partially implemented as a mod, it is possible to do it. But the fluid handling code as of 0.14 vanilla is not up to the challenge at all. I ended up turning water into an item which can be inserted and used to make it run right.

In my mind, Steam is the eternal king of the railway.
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
It could be an idea to have several types of locomotives; from a highly inefficient burner locomotive that uses something like a stirling engine, a somewhat inefficient steam locomotive, and more efficient diesel and electric locomotives.

Many a newb has been confused and tried to put oil into a train to power it. Will become more of an issue with universal barrelling.

Money might be the root of all evil, but ignorance is the heart.

+1 for consistency reasons
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Well I'm just for "Locomotive" and that's it. There is not going to be a true Diesel variant or Electric variant in the future anyways. Or at least I don't think that there will be.

Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
A train that converts barreled petrol into empty barrels for power sounds like pretty reasonable thing to have in factorio... I, for one, am not sure what the word "Diesel" actually means (aside from "excellent place to buy jeans"), and should really Google it sometime.
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Yep, that's it exactly. You know how you can burn power poles and wooden boxes in trains? Jeans are a valid fuel source as well. Don't bother googling anything, trust me.
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
It's a form of light fuel oil used in diesel engines, similar to kerosene.golfmiketango wrote:A train that converts barreled petrol into empty barrels for power sounds like pretty reasonable thing to have in factorio... Which doesn't matter all that much- Diesels can run on a wider variety of fuels than most other internal combustion engines.

I fully agree.MeduSalem wrote:Well I'm just for "Locomotive" and that's it. There is not going to be a true Diesel variant or Electric variant in the future anyways. Or at least I don't think that there will be.
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Be it "Burner locomotive" or just "Locomotive" the change should definitely be made as "Diesel" is certainly confusing especially when you are going to have universal barreling for oil products such as Gas which will confuse people even more.
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
In 0.15 it's just "Locomotive"
Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Thanks, the name is a lot nicer now.
