I've seen this mentioned in other threads without being discussed much, so here's a thread for it.
TL;DR Deconstruction Planners should have the ability to filter what's being destroyed (ie don't remove power lines or roboports, or only remove trees)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Using Deconstruction Planners is a hassle, especially when you have to maneuver around all your infrastructure.
I'll suggest two new feartures:
1.) The Deconstruction Book
• Essentially a Blueprint Book for DP's
• Works exactly the same as a Blueprint Book
2.) Filtered Deconstruction
• Right clicking a DP brings up a UI like a filter inserter's
• You can select from 5 or 6 different items
• A check box determines whether to ONLY remove those items or to remove everything BUT those items
Benefits of such a system:
• Removing forests without having to avoid power lines.
• Rebuilding part of the factory without worrying about disconnecting power to other sections.
• Roboports won't lose power, and they won't remove themselves before all your work is done.
• Removing trees between train lines without removing signals or tracks.
• Other things I haven't thought of...

Re: Filtered Deconstruction
You overcomplicate things. SHIFT selecting area with deconstruction planner should give a little window with the list all entities in that area. Left click on an icon would select entities to deconstruct, right click would deselect them, left click on an already selected icon would deselect the rest, right click on deselected icon would select the rest.
So if you select a forest with power poles there you just left click on the tree-icon and only the trees would be marked for deconstruction. There is no need to hassle with books and several planners.

If I understand correctly, you mean that when you let go of selecting an area it asks which items you actually want deleted?
