HI

For a short story :

I play Factorio on my windows PC at home and my linux Laptop at work. If i want to share my save game and play on the same map, i need to make a symlink on my linux and windows box so the save directory point on my dropbox directory.BUT, symlink sometime break and my save game are not "shared" anymore.

My proposal is :

Could it be possible, from setting menu inside the game, to "Specify" a different save game directory elsewhere on the computer.

Exemple:

Default:
Default value could be c:[default game directory]

Custom:
a user could change it to c:\users\[username]\dropbox\saves\
Then Factorio will save games in the "new" directory

That way it could be easier to "share" the save between platform ?

*Edit: I know there is this wiki page https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... _directory but the proposal is the symlink and it sometime break
So the proposal to give user choice of the save destination still apply - or maybe able to specify it from config file...

So you want to split write-data into something like save-data, mod-data and temp-data because you don't want mods to be synced for some reason, or what's wrong with the existing config option?

Also, in which way do symlinks not work properly for you?

I have no idea why my windows 10 stop working. and when i try to create a new symlink, it don;t want saysing that the symlink already exist, but is not working.... its odd
The linux laptop is still working... but hey, its linux lol

I don't really want to have everything splitted. Only that savegame directory can be "custom" by users. Mods are not complicated to get on your forum format.

So what's wrong with just pointing the write-data path at the dropbox directory then?

the write-data path in the wiki bring the save game at the new location too ?
if yes, i did miss something and need to try it as soon i get back to home from work

YES: i have now learned that write data contain the mods and savegames.. and it work perfectly using config.ini file

Thank you.. i don;t think that spending time for the UI in game to do a simple thing like this is viable..
