I thought, that for factorio it can be also a cool idea. This is how it might work:
- at beginning you might have a house. If the map provides it.
- when it is there you come out of the house ("what a nice day")
- the first house can be build from some wood, it's not more than a hut.
- the house can protect you from creepers if needed
- the house works as a chest, it stores much stuff
- you can level up the house by researching:
--- put weapons on the roof, kill everyone, who comes too near

You cannot build more than one house! But you can move it (delete the house, built it anywhere new).
Upgrading is simple. Delete the house, create an upgraded house (the old will be taken and upgraded), set it at a new point.
Perhaps the house gives a little bonus to anything? Many ideas...
