This depends ranges of poles, weapons, miners, maybe the hero and the inserters.
Poles:
Placement: highlight the covered area (already implemented), after it is placed, the range for the next pole is highlighted for some seconds (blending out). Hovered/Selected: Show covered range AND placement range. This is because when zoomed out it is sometimes very difficult to see, if the pole is wired or not.
I recommend here also, when pressing shift while placing a pole, it is not auto-wired.
Weapons:
Placement: Show range of weapon. Hovered/Selected: Show range of weapon. When you are near enough it may show also the range of enemy weapons.
Miners:
Placement/Hovered/Selected: Show which range it has. For electric miners, the range is 6 fields, most people didn't know that.
Hero:
Nothing selected: Show reachable area. Changing weapon/Firing: Show range of that weapon.
Inserter: Makes only sense, if there is maybe a much more agile inserter.

Re: Highlight Ranges
Thats exactly what i miss atm! I never know how far the rocket towers from enemys can shootWeapons:
Placement: Show range of weapon. Hovered/Selected: Show range of weapon. When you are near enough it may show also the range of enemy weapons.
Re: Highlight Ranges
Add: I forgot, that the player has 3 ranges.
- weapon-range
- range he can handle things (building, view etc...)
- range he can hack and pickup (hacking wood, get items from ground)
I don't know exactly how to display that ranges so that they are not too much information.

Re: Highlight Ranges
No.
But I wouldn't wonder if the programmers had also built in the shoe-size, to calculate how deep the char sinks into the mud at the lakes.

Re: Highlight Ranges
Added suggestion: Instead of displaying the ranges, when the player gets in reach of an item, the item is highlighted in more or less different kinds.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Re: Highlight Ranges
I've been running into a little bit of trouble clearing some biter nests and swarms. To the best of my knowledge and searches, weapon ranges aren't shown in-game in 1.0, nor are there any mods that show the ranges of equipped messages.
Has there been any update or change to this? The best I've found so far is this example image that I think I got from FactorioCheatSheets. It's better than nothing, but it's not as good as some kind of in-game dotted line highlighting what my effective fighting range is. I don't have the time to glance at the cheat sheet while in combat.

Re: Highlight Ranges
I think this should be moved to implemented. It’s from 2013 and so many things have changed since then. If you think it should change create a new suggestion...
