Suggestion : Additional data point for Roboport

Post by astroshak »

How about making Roboports, when wired to the circuit network, include the number of Roboports making up the network?

As I recall, as Robot Worker Speed tech rises, the number of bots that a roboport can service drops, eventually getting down to 4 bots per port. This is when they are fast enough that they almost instantly go about their job, then go back to recharge, before doing the next almost instantaneous job.

This means that one real limit to the number of bots that a network can support is limited by the number of ports that comprise the network. This number would seem to be an appropriate bit of data for the roboport to output, either as part of the Robot Statistics (where I’d want it to be personally) or part of the Logistic Network Contents (where it might be confused with the number of roboports available for bots to pick up from a Storage Chest or a Provider of some sort).

Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

The data is available. Press L, goto member (second tab).

Edit: oops , din see that u wanna connect to circuit. Ignore this comment.

I know that the https://mods.factorio.com/mod/GhostScanner does that.
I have not played around with that mod, thanks. I still think it would be appropriate for vanilla, however.

I agree. Having the number of roboports making up a logistics network available in the circuit output would be invaluable for automating bot scaling. Currently you can easily have a system that maintains a fixed number of robots, adding more to the system as needed, but it's just that: a fixed number. I want to be able to define a ratio, to tell the system, for example "keep 50 construction bots for each roboport", but I can't do that without either manually keeping track of the number of roboports (which is a pain and error-prone) or installing a mod (which is not the end of the world, but this really feels like something that should be vanilla).

tbh this is a problem in search of a solution

i meant a solution in search of a problem ;)

but if you want a vanilla one, connect up a combinator to each roboport that outputs a Roboport signal and then that will maintain a count for you in the local circuit network!

This is - due to the obvious output through the roboports and due to the ghost scanner mod - related:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=39474 Roboports should output missing materials to circuit network
