Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
Instead of Ctrl+clicking every item stack when transferring could it be possible to Ctrl+click drag over other item stacks to transfer them?
Re: Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
Why?
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Re: Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
Shift + left-click transfers a single stack, shift + left-click on multiple stacks transfers only those.
Ctrl + left-click transfers all stacks of the same type.
If you use right-click instead, you transfer half the amounts.
What is the rationale for your suggestion exactly?

Re: Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
I will explain a little better.
If I have 10 stacks of an item and I only want to transfer 8 stacks my options are to shift click each of the 8 stacks or ctrl click all of the stacks and then shift click 2 of the transferred stacks back again.
If its possible it would be handy to shift click on the 1st stack and then drag across the 8 stacks and then releasing to transfer only the 8 stacks.
You could also have an option associated with it that could turn on/off transferring only the item type that you first clicked on and not other types.

What you described is normally a short phase in the beginning of the game. Factorio is about automating such things. If you repeatedly need to transfer 8 items (or similar small numbers) you progress your factory into the wrong direction. My opinion.

Or you could ctrl+rightclick twice to transfer 5 and then 2.5 stacks and then shift+leftclick to transfer the last half stack.nemisis010 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 3:28 amIf I have 10 stacks of an item and I only want to transfer 8 stacks my options are to shift click each of the 8 stacks or ctrl click all of the stacks and then shift click 2 of the transferred stacks back again.

Re: Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
+1 Clicking less is always good.
He said stacks.
Lulz i never new this. But i tried and CTRL+RMB transfers literally half of each stack, instead of half the number of stacks. Leaving a chest full of half-filled stacks with no empty slots. What is the usecase for that?

Re: Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
The way I do this with belts is usually like this: I limit the amount the chest can hold.
With a limit of 800 belts you can easily ctrl+leftclick to take them all, or ctrl+rightclick to take only 400.
If you think you need more, increase the capacity of the chest to 1600, so that ctrl+leftclick transfers 1600 and ctrl+rightclick transfers 800.
Obviously, I made up the numbers, but you get the idea.

Re: Ctrl+Click Drag to transfer Items
But the idea doesn't work because the number of belts i want to take out of a chest depends on free inventory space which varies over time. Also keeping a stock of only 800 belts means that when i come back to grab the next 800 belts the chest isn't full enough. Because infrastructure is "consumed" by players in bursts the linear production must keep ample buffers to cover the spikes. And that's all before even considering multiplayer.valneq wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 1:45 amThe way I do this with belts is usually like this: I limit the amount the chest can hold.
