Request "blueprint resource package" from logistics

Post by orost »

Let's say you want to improve defences in a remote outpost. You have a blueprint of a turrent emplacement, and if you wanted to build it in your main base, all you have to do is plop it down and it'll be built in seconds.

Unfortunately, the outpost is a remote one, connected only by train. Its logistics network is separate and doesn't have the things you need. So what you need to do is calculate how many items of each type you'll need, request them, then go to the outpost, drop them in a chest and only then build. That's a lot of tedium, especially in case of a complex blueprint, and you're very likely to end up with extra items or forget something.

So, let's imagine this instead: you put the blueprint itself in a logistics request slot in your inventory. You set the slider to how many you want built (in this case, the slider would go in increments of 1). This makes logistics bots bring you all the items you require to build that many blueprints of this type. For convienience, these resources are bound into a "blueprint package" meant for construction - they are joined together by an outline and can be picked up and moved as a single item, and they will not be used up for crafting. You can then go to the outpost and with two clicks put the package into the logistics network. No need to request multiple items, no risk of making a mistake - you simply tell the LN "I want the items needed to build n copies of this blueprint" and you're done.

This will also work wonderfully with portable roboports, if/when they're implemented - you request the packages and then you can immediately get to building outside of the network.
