I don''t really know if this is a really good idea. I know some programs, especially music making, which have default colors.
See for example this:
In this case, there are about 16 colors, which are "fixed". And the program chooses automatically any color out of this palette and tries to acoid using only one color.
I can think about that for the players or any other entity in the game. But much more important: GUI-elements, colors of buttons, coloring trains, so that you know, which route it drives... and a lot of those stuff more.

Re: Default color palette
I don't really understand what you are suggesting... Can you give a more practical example?
I have not tried multiplayer yet, but I assume the player colors are not randomly set each time, or do they?

Re: Default color palette
Practical example: Player #1 has Color #1 by default. Player 2 color 2, and so on.
Train #1 has by default color 8 as route color. Train #2 color #9. And so on.
It is just a simple numeration by color.
