Disconneting red and green wire signals.

Post by Freeq »

I have the situation like this:

Image

Inserters didn't work when even only one signals is meeting condition. This is problem, in my opinion. So in this moment my idea was born. Why no to split this signals, so inserters could work to time until two conditions were met.

What do you think about it?

I don't really understand.

Suggesion: Clearly outline how it works now, provide an example. Not everyone knows it.
And then (separately) describe how you think it could work.

And try using shorter sentences with simple meanings, they get though more easily.

Ok.

I have two chests:

First from the left is connected to red wire, second to green wire. In some place they are connected to the same elctrice pole.

This two wires are connected do one inserter, and this inserter has set up two conditions: for red "<800", and for green "<400"

And if one chest met the condition the inserter stop working, even if second chest will be empty.

So my idea is to make inserter works to the moment when two condition will be met (in my case inserter should stop working only when chest with red wire will have 800 and chest with green wire will have 400.)
I hope that now everything is clear ;)
Sorry for my english :)

Aha.. you are using a flipped terminology for smart inserters.
Your picture says Work IF "Red:Circuit IS LESS than 800" and "Green:Circuit IS LESS than 400"

The first condition _is_ met when Red has less than 800 circuits (Thus the condition is not met anymore when the limit is reached)

I understand that you want an "or" in there.

Sounds like a good suggestion.. A little button that could toggle AND and OR

I thought that if the inserter is on both network, that their signal would simply sum up for the inserter's needs.
I don't see any obvious disadvantage of that (Rather than GUI elements popping up without being expected)

PS: Maybe those GUI elements should always be visible.
The AND/OR button could be grayed out when the connection is missing and the signal's condition box replaced with gray "Red/Green network is not connected"

Sometimes it might be useful to create more complex condition tree. It would be nice if we could switch to "advanced" mode and create more complex (AND, OR, NOT, more conditions, several wires) condition.

But it will be accessible only for those, who requires that. Usually its enough to have there only one condition.

we already can do that by building logic gates out of smart chests and smart inserters.
I woudn't mind a dedicated logic-matrix block/thingy, though.

Hello post from 2013!
https://xkcd.com/2363/

Your suggestion is still relevant!
Separating red and green in combinators (perhaps by using a red and green each signal) would still be incredibly useful for things like pairwise multiplication.

Ya ;) , but it has a younger brother:
viewtopic.php?f=80&t=50283 Separated Handling of Red and Green Wires

And I would recommend to continue discussions there.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.
