TL;DR
Instead of Wube creating just one campaign, could it be possible to let users make their own campaigns and share them... like they already do with mods? What ?
So I read Bobiverse book 1, and thought - man what a brilliant game this world could turn into. Then about a week later I discovered Factorio - and lo, I percieve a really good match. My first conclusion is that it would be lovely to play "Bob" and his compatriots in a Factorio campaign, but it would be even better if I could make it myself - and likewise if other users could make their own campaigns and I could play them. Why ?
I guess I represent some percentage of Factorio players when I say that I love playing campaigns. The core kernel of value in any game for me, is the story it tells. For example, Starcraft has a good storyline in its campaigns with good character development and complex interactions between characters. Each base I build in Factorio, let's me tell a story: from those humble, humble beginnings where you're digging out y'er own coal with just a pickaxe, to having to explore far and wide - dodging big biter bases all the while - in order to find a big enough oil patch to satisfy the demands of my base before the flame turrets fail and the aliens overrun me...Having a new campaign to play is like having a new story to read. Expecting Wube to keep making new campaigns without payment is naive. If it was possible to install a new campaign like I install a new mod, then: Wube could make new paid campaigns and users could make new free (or even paid?) campaigns. And Factorio would have much much better life expectancy on my game shelf.
