Logistic transportation to bridge belt-rail gap

Post by logaritm »

Currently i feel that the resource transportation capacity between the simple belt and train is to big and there is a need for a shorter range bulk transportation method.

I would suggest a "tram" system that would use a "railway" that can be placed like the belt and trams that are much slower and has lesser bulk transportation capacity then the railway system.

What would that add over just having a long belt?

A small train is fine too.

Vehicles automatically slide along belts, have large inventories, and inserters can interact with them. Take advantage of this to move vast quantities of material, one car at a time.

The mid point of belts-rails-bots isn't quantity but flexibility. Some modders are developing "programmable belt routing" systems which I haven't got to grips with yet, but some kind of "ground based, fuel-using robots," that perhaps pathed down asphalt roads or one tile wide narrow gauge rails, which carried less than belts but could route themselves on a "request/provide" logistic system would be interesting and useful.
