Difficulty Scaling

Post by MakeItGraphic »

TL;DR
Over time the recipe/technology cost increase automatically.

What ?
As days pass in Factorio the cost of crafting will increase, along with the cost of research. Which can be explained by the fact resources are becoming scarcer each day you continue to consume them.

Therefore those two factors 'the cost of science', and 'the cost of crafting' would increase at the end of each day based on the total amount of resources you've consumed on your map through mining.
Why ?
In the old Factorio we had to change the variables in the console which voided being able to gain achievements. Now it is hardset during map creation.

The issue with it being hardset goes both ways!

- A. you set it too high and the game is way too difficult to grind into a playable zone
- B. you set it too low which causes your factory to idle as you have no use for your production outputs (at least until you reach the point of rockets)

Now not always is A. a bad thing, sometimes you want a hard start. So rather then setting a concrete multiplayer for science have it so you just have the Technology Difficulty and Recipe Difficulty as either Normal or Expensive.

Then have third option 'Difficulty Scaling', which naturally progress the difficulty in the game based off resources consumed.

This could also be done irregardless of the day cycle, and just organically increase difficulty in real time based off resources consumed.

In whichever case (I think the latter sounds more appealing tbh) this idea for me would make the game 100% more enjoyable especially in the sense of building megabases.
