Support for 5-button mice

Post by ManaUser »

TL;DR
Please add support for binding the 4th and 5th buttons on 5-button mice.
What ?
I would like to be able bind commands to the side-buttons on my mouse. I know Factorio isn't terribly unusual for not recognizing them, not all games do, but I'm always happy when I see one that does.
Why ?
Well, specifically, I would really like to put the shoot command, or maybe even both shoot commands, on my mouse. It would feel much more natural to me than using Space and C. Other people might have different uses though.

I don't have a 5-button mouse myself, so I can't try it, but are you sure it doesn't work? I think I've heard of it being done before (here, here, here.)
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

If your problems continue you can try to use autohotkey. It's what i use to bind the other 15 Buttons of my mouse :P

Well dang, I'm having all the bad luck. I guess it's just my computer. Never mind then.

If they're going to do that, they may as well go all the way and support 12-button mice, though I have no idea if that's actually the highest they go.

I think windows' builtin driver goes up to 5 buttons and a wheel. Mice with more buttons tend to have special drivers. Linux tends to go higher, limit probably 16 or 32?

5 buttons and 2 wheels actually, one for vertical scrolling, and one for horizontal scrolling.

It's rare, but some mice do have 2 scroll wheels.

My Microsoft mouse has a touch-pad for a middle mouse button that recognises both vertical and horizontal scrolling... and even has a weighted wheel inside with steps that spins to actually simulate the clunky feeling of you using an actual wheel, it's kind of freaky.
