Nuclear Artillery Shells
We have nuclear ammo versions of bullets and rockets so why not nuclear ammo for the artillery turret? You can even call it an Atomic Bomb if you want.
Edit: Going to come in and say that maybe they should fly slower for the sake of balance.

Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
I agree with the suggestion. It does seem absurd that the only delivery method for nukes is the rocket launcher.

Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
Dumping nukes via artillery is cool, but wouldn't laying down Rods of God from space be better?

Yeah, but which one are we more likely to get?bobucles wrote:Dumping nukes via artillery is cool, but wouldn't laying down Rods of God from space be better?
Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
Totally upvoting this. Nuclear artillery shells make much more sense than nuclear tank ammunition.
And would be totally awesome to observe explosions with newly introduced reveal-on-hit mechanic from artillery.

Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
Why can't we have both?FactorioParadox wrote:Yeah, but which one are we more likely to get?bobucles wrote:Dumping nukes via artillery is cool, but wouldn't laying down Rods of God from space be better?
(Just to be clear, I'm not sure either fit in vanilla, but mods for both would be cool. There is already orbital ion cannon, which is sort of similar to "Rods from space concept").

I think this would be awesome and totally appropriate.

An alternative rocket payload, that gives you a targeting designator instead of science?bobucles wrote:Dumping nukes via artillery is cool, but wouldn't laying down Rods of God from space be better?

I'm not saying we can't, I'm just saying that the devs would be more likely to give us Nuclear artillery shells than kinetic bombardment rods.Zavian wrote:Why can't we have both?FactorioParadox wrote:Yeah, but which one are we more likely to get?bobucles wrote:Dumping nukes via artillery is cool, but wouldn't laying down Rods of God from space be better?

Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
I think a rocket is wayyy too expensive to be worth delivering atomic bombs. If the atomic bomb radius was increased significantly, maybe then it would be worth it.SuicideJunkie wrote:An alternative rocket payload, that gives you a targeting designator instead of science?bobucles wrote:Dumping nukes via artillery is cool, but wouldn't laying down Rods of God from space be better?
Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
For 1? Yeah probably. For a stack of 10? That's a pretty good number of nukes considering that you can probably pump out a rocket every 5-15 minutes after the first one.I think a rocket is wayyy too expensive to be worth delivering atomic bombs.

People have made bases that can pump out a rocket a minute.bobucles wrote:For 1? Yeah probably. For a stack of 10? Gonna start playing again with 0.16 build.
That's all.

Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
I don't see a problem with that. A RPM base is pretty damn huge. Calling down 10 nukes a minute is pretty damn impressive all on its own. It probably won't compare to the current super power of artillery, and it would certainly have no value next to a nuclear artillery.People have made bases that can pump out a rocket a minute.

Except you probably wouldn't get any science packs for sending up nukes instead of satellites.bobucles wrote:I don't see a problem with that. A RPM base is pretty damn huge. Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
Seems balanced to me. Besides, you can add a second rocket silo so one is launching nukes while the other one is launching satellites. You'll only get half as much science but at least you can have your cake and eat it too I guess.chris13524 wrote:Except you probably wouldn't get any science packs for sending up nukes instead of satellites.bobucles wrote:I don't see a problem with that. Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
+1, HOWEVER...
I say DON'T make it artillery shells. Instead, have a standalone nuclear missile silo that could launch atomic bombs at a similar range the arty can.
Artillery fires automatically, so I don't want them to waste my expensive atomic bombs on single nests that aliens push into already cleaned areas. Therefore, nukes should be launched from separate missile silo that has no auto mode like arty does. Preferably with larger range than arty manual mode.
Plus, I prefer the feel of using ballistic missiles to deliver my nuclear weaponry, over that of nuclear artillery.

Re: Nuclear Artillery Shells
Nuclear artillery so yes.
Nuclear rocket launcher so nay. Hmm, mod to remove nuclear man-fired rockets? There appeared a nuclear arty in the meantime. But… can you remove vanilla items in a mod?
