Nuclear Reactor and Heat pipes connectable to circuit networ

Post by Redominus »

The heat pipes are the densest form of energy storage right now(1 heat pipe@1000C ~ 5.1k steam@500C) . Being able to know, from the reactor, the remaining time to finish the current fuel cell and from a pipe the temperature we could calculate when to add more fuel or wait for the system to utilize the heat.
TLDR: Read from reactors % remaining to consume actual fuel. Read from heat pipes the Temp.

Hi, Redominus.

How did you get ~5,1k steam, isn't it actually ~10309.3? (1000000 * 5 / 485 or 8000000 / 8 / 5820 * 60)

Heated 1 reactor, 1 heat pipe and one heat echanger to 1000C each. Attached a storage tank to heat exchanger output and deleted the reactor. Finally connected water to heat exchanger.
Final steam value ~10k
Repeated with 2 heat pipes
Final steam value ion tank: ~15.1k
The only usable energy in heat pipes is from 500C to 1000C. Below 500C can not be used.

My calculation for the energy is: (5000 steam / 60(turbine)) = 83.3 seconds * 5.8 MW(turbine) = 483 MWs = 483 MJ

Right, my mistake, i was counting as energy storage all 1000C in heat pipe, not 500C which are only usable.
Energy stored in 1000C heat pipe is 500 MJ, since 1 cycle of reactor provide 8000C to heat pipes (or 8000C to heat exchangers or 800 to reactors) and 1 reactor produces 8 GJ, so 1C of heat pipe is equivalent to 1 MJ.
Steam turbine outputs 5.82 MW, not 5.8. It's just rounded in game.
1 unit of water/steam require 0.2 J per 1C.
5000 steam * 0.2 * 485 = 485000 J.

In fact my nuclear setup relay on long heat pipes and over sized heat exchanger and turbines. 4 reactors, 252 heat pipes, 120 turbines and 72 exchanger, with a peak of 696 MW.
I feed it in cycles of 2 nuclear cells to each reactor.
