Robots should stick to roboport supply lines

Post by Voker57 »

I would expect robots to follow lines between roboports. Instead, they wander into enemy territory and are getting killed by hundreds. So, they should either travel roboport-to-roboport until they reach closest roboport to destination or avoid enemies.

They don't work well over long ranges, so most people work around this by having multiple smaller bot-networks.

But your suggestion is still a good idea.

how about a robot-exclusion tower? instead of providing docking and power, it repels robots?

I like your idea as it would really help robot behavioural issues.

However there is a strong downside to it. It is the CPU usage. Currently robots have really simple algorithms for functioning which makes them an efficient logistic choice for megabases where every UPS counts. And forcing every single robot into pathfinding calculation will slow down game performance greatly.

So yeah, your idea is really nice. And no, I don't want it to be implemented if it hits CPU.

+1

A while ago I envisioned what it would be like if there was a physical connection between linked roboports.

The idea was that linked roboports (probably only those linked at 90 degree angles) would have cables between them that bots would travel on.
While on the cables, bots would travel faster & be charged.
Bots would not disengage from the cable system until they reach the roboport closest to their task at which point they would launch out of the roboport.

Fix robot pathing/pathfinding

Im getting really tired of the bots flying over bitter infested lands... Can we please just confine the robots to only to the "green" controlled area... hundreds of these little bots keep flying willingly to their doom...

yeah I just posted a thing like this something needs to happen... Robots shouldn't be able to wonder outside of controlled territory... The only possible way for this to happen is satcomms, right now though it shows them to be operating on a tower brodcast...

Doesn't make much sense. See explanation under viewtopic.php?f=80&t=18093 Roboport/Logistic Network/Robot Enhancements/Robot Routing/Charging
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.
