New game plus!
Okay so here´s an idea:
First, you play the game regularly, except instead of launching just the satellite, you are given an option to launch whatever item you choose with a rocket. Game keeps score of which items you have launched.
At any time after launching the first rocket you can decide to end the first game and start a new game plus.
Here is the catch: you get to start with any and all of the items you launched in the first game.
These items would be very helpful to give you a head start obviously.
Also, I was thinking the new game plus should have forced higher difficulty. You would get attacked very soon after you land so you´d better have launched some armor, weapons, electric grid and laser turrets
Basically you would land on a HOT LZ weapons blazing and then you set up your defenses and basic production site.
I was thinking though that the new game plus territory would also be incredibly mineral rich so you would have the benefit of getting MASSIVE production going on there if you survive.

Re: New game plus!
Yeah but every player will have a different idea of how this should pan out. Mods are a good way to get more fun out of the game once you're bored of vanilla and have all the achievements, there are mods that make it a lot more difficult and you can use the console to spawn in items.
I think when 0.15 is released I will do a "logistic" run where I don't build -any- belts (except for research). I am undecided if I want to use the console to skip forward in research and give me an initial roboport... maybe I'll try it first.

Money might be the root of all evil, but ignorance is the heart.

There is one problem. Waiting and boring copying things larger gives you an advantage in next step. That could be quite easy to simulate. Keep in mind what you have sent and mod next game to give them to you at start.

New Game+
**********************START OF MERGED POST**********************
I got this idea from a couple of console RPGs that have an option after beating the game to start over with "New Game+" in which you start at the beginning of the story but you keep your items and character levels.
So I was thinking Factorio could have a New Game+ option in the vein of the campaign mission in which you load up a car for a trip. You could have the option of making a New Game+ based on an existing savegame in which everything in your inventory along with a vehicle of your choice comes with you into the new map, and you also keep all of the technologies you've already researched.
I often wish I could start with some of the early hurdles out of the way before I even begin building my factory. That way I can start out with a permanent setup instead of wasting a lot of energy making a factory that will need to be dismantled or at least heavily modified later.
What I would bring into a New Game+:
Tank (I love tanks!)
Lots of cannon ammo to last me until I get my refinery set up
Steel power poles
Some gun turrets and AP ammo, I don't like having excess unspent regular ammo into the late game
Several stacks of walls so I can begin my defense planning right away
Lots of steel because you can never have too much steel
Steel chests so I don't have wood or iron chests laying around
All types of inserters except burner inserters
Steam power parts
Assault rifle
a stack of steel tools
a stack of repair packs

Re: New Game+
3 sets of Power Armour MKII with different equipment, bunch of Roboports, bots, Assembly Machines 3, Speed Modules 3 and Efficiency Modules 2, Electric Furnaces, Destroyer Capsules...
But then there is already no need to start a new game any more, I'd still have enough space left to bring all the parts needed to launch a rocket.

That's why you gotta choose to start with less. Decide what you want to do and what you don't want to do. Start past all the stuff you don't want but not past what you do want.Xeanoa wrote:3 sets of Power Armour MKII with different equipment, bunch of Roboports, bots, Assembly Machines 3, Speed Modules 3 and Efficiency Modules 2, Electric Furnaces, Destroyer Capsules...

I won't bring any lasers, solar panels, or accumulators because I want to deal with coal transportation. I won't bring any robots because I want to build the factory by myself--though I might eventually make maintenance bots to keep it running. I won't bring red circuits, plastic, batteries, or any other petroleum products except ammo. I won't bring any modules. I might bring power armor but probably without much equipment if I do.
Re: New Game+
Have you played the tutorial? There is such a scenario included (more or less)...
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.
