Permanent Landscape Features

I’m surprised no one suggested this already.
Reading about people generating maps with less resources to force them to spread out, and not really feeling much reason to spread out far myself.

Short version: Add permanent landscape features with industrial uses.

Long version: Add rare permanent landscape features with industrial uses to drive exploration, expansion and long rails.
They should probably only exist outside the starting zone, and start being viable post-rail.

Things to discuss:

1 Should this add any new uses or materials (think refining sands for silicates).
2 Alternatively it could add new (infinite?) sources for already existing materials, like extracting metals from volcanic chasms (using cooling and such to keep the process fresh).
3 Providing passive environmental effects (better solar locally).

The character should run across more interesting natural phenomena on an alien world, and exploit them!
