Multiplayer info suggestions

Post by roy7 »

I play a lot on public servers on headless servers, and it'd be nice if the "Waiting for clients downloading map" would show the name(s) of people downloading. We have someone at the moment who has been downloading over 5 minutes and aren't even half way done yet. One can guess who it is from the F5 screen but it'd be nice to know for sure, in case an admin needs to check their IP in the log and block their IP from the server so everyone else could resume playing.

Also, the F5 # of slow packets display isn't too helpful to figure out who is lagging the server if it was running smooth a while and then suddenly gets really slow. The problem seems to be one the server gets lagged by a person with a bad connection the # of slow packets for all players goes up, not just one player. And your own # is always 0. If these could show numbers reported by the server instead of your local client perhaps, that'd be fantastic. Then if 1 person has slowed down, only their # is high. Or if you see your own # is high you know you should leave for the sake of the group. It also seems weird on a headless server setup for <server> to report slow packets to itself.

When connecting to a multiplayer server a "cancel" button would be nice. If the download speed is so slow you want to not connect after all, the only option currently is to kill the whole game.
