I believe the way robot ports currently done could be improved by having a feature within the UI of the roboport to allow a user to specify a particular block to pick up and put into storage.
Also the player has the ability to specify what that block should be replaced with(aslong as the block is the same tile size).
Doing this would allow users to specify only Trees to be picked up within Roboports' Vicinity.
Also allow the automation of Upgrading (Specifys Factory 1 to be replaced with Factory 2)
Could also be added to the tech tree to allow progression.
TL;DR
Roboports improved to allow construction bots to pick up ALL of a block
Would also allow that block to be replaced.
Better Roboports!

Re: Better Roboports!
So... from the roboport... a GUI that lists all entities (belts, inserters, factories etc) within it's construction zone, and allows the player to Deconstruct all of this type, or "Mine" (Pick up) all of this type?
An an interesting idea there, since unplacing an item is technically the same action as mining... construction robots able to mine

Re: Better Roboports!
Construction robots can remove objects such as a transport belt aslong as it has been predefined with the deconstruction planner. This is already implemented.bobingabout wrote: An an interesting idea there, since unplacing an item is technically the same action as mining... construction robots able to mine
What I am suggesting is that within the Roboport or some building which can control all Roboports a GUI is available for the user to pick anything which is a building to be picked up and
placed into storage(Essentially doing what is done with deconstruction planner without actually using it and it only be tailored to one item).
The user could also tell the robots to replace the building which would be picked up by the robot to change to something else. (Yellow Transport Belt being changed to Red).
Obviously the construction robot would have to have these items available.
Essentially it would just make robots more smarter and able to be tailored towards upgrading features or removing trees or any specific building.
Not mining anything.
