Until now you can build one Item on left mouse press and fife Items on right mouse press.
My Suggestion is to build the Item on mouse release and not on mouse down.
It has the Improvement to build more Items at once if you press the mouse key for a longer time.
1. Mouse down event: Add 1 or 5 Items to Temp queue
2. If the mouse key is still pressed after 2 seconds: Add another 1 or 5 Items to Temp queue
3. If the mouse key is still pressed add another 1 or 5 additional Items every Second to Temp queue
4. On mouse key release and still in the same Item: Build all Items in the Temp queue at once
5. If you move the cursor away from the selected Item: Cancel the Temp queue
The Number of Items to build should be displayed next to the cursor.

Re: GUI Improvement for building Items
There was also the (I think a little bit better) idea to hold the mouse and move. Which increases /decreases the number.
Can be used also for the whole logistic stuff, combinator stuff etc.

Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

I quite like this as it fits with, e.g., placing inventory-held robots.
