--port and/or --write-dir arguments to the binary

Post by Bisa »

Title says it all, while I know --config would solve both of these I really think the headless would benefit from the above options being passable directly (and if they were, any options mentioned in config.ini would have less prio in case you for some reason also wanted to change other settings)

With this, a server host could easily use a shared config.ini for multiple instances stemming from the same binary and firing up instances simply by changing the arguments.
Hosting a factorio server? Take a look at this || init script ||.

Sorry, but the right way to do this is to have different config-files and being able to include other config files.

How is that the right way, who decided that?

I think for example to Apache config. Long time ago that was not possible and now it is... what a difference in configuration!

Nameless other tools use this way for global config files that can be extended somehow.

But I see: There is no "right" here. :)

I just want to avoid a situation, where we have hundreds of game-arguments and also config-options (but with different names) and nobody understands it anymore. :)
