[2.0.19] Ghosts of lightning rods show fake protected area

Post by Lochar »

What happened?

When ghost building lightning rods/collectors, the eventual coverage area is added into real coverage, but (correctly) does not actually protect against lightning. This causes problems when trying to view the current actual coverage for remotely safely building in.

Suggested fix:
Ghost-tint the unbuilt devices area, or don't even show it at all similar to the build area of a ghost robotport not being shown.

Hello and thank you for the report, but this would definitely be a feature request and not a bug (thus moving this to Ideas and Suggestions).

It was decided that attractor ghost would have the same protection visualisations as real ones, because in the primary use case existence of aghosts communicates "this will be built soon".

Do I understand your situation correctly, that you build bunch of ghsot attractors (manually or in a grid) and then want to build some other entities while the attractor production catches up?

The different tint for ghost protected areas would probably do the trick, however it would not be that simple to implement how it might seem, but probably still doable. Another possibility (or maybe in addition to this) there could be some indication that you are about to place an endangered entity/ghost, I am just not sure how to do that without making it too graphically cluttered.

Yeah, I have a blueprint of a bunch of substations, lightning rods, and roboports, I drop that down then start working on other buildout while bots catch up to the power buildout component.

It's also a case when I'm changing out lightning rods for the attractors, since they're not direct upgrades, that removing a rod and placing an attractor I'm not 100% certain where the overlap actually is if I want to remove more rods than I put down attractors, since they have a bigger protection space.
