Allow cloning / copying of Logistic Groups

Post by Theragus »

TL;DR
Add Button for cloning / copying a Logistic Group from an existing one

What ?
See above
Why ?
Sometimes I need a preexisting Logistic Group with slightly different requests / values but I don't want to change the group since other requesters are also using it. Therefore, a Copy Button when changing a logistic group would be nice (similar to copy blueprints)
It would be possible to just make a new one, but if there's a lot of requests it would just be tedious.

Allow me to also point to this suggestion : viewtopic.php?f=6&t=116612 (allow exporting/importing logistic groups).
Its first objective was to share between players, but I could also see the feature be used to export a Logistic group, and get a Logistic group (2) when re importing it. Two birds with one stone.

There is actually a way to do this !

I must say i played the beta for at least 300 hours before finding it, and it's like the most risky trick to use i found so far.

Let me explain :

If you have a logistic group and you want to duplicate it and edit the copy, you will probably end up like me editing the original one by mistake and screwing up a considerable amount of things remotely.

However the proper method do to so is :

First copy the original logistic group in the destination you wish.

Second, rename the group inside the target.

Third , edit the target's group after you validated the renamming.

Doing it in another order will result in pain so it's really to use with care, again, a little tired and you try to edit before renaming, then rename and edit another thing, and realize that you have no idea what was modified what was there before and what is actually going to break.

I don't know if i'm going to get used to it. I would suggest to make this more known and maybe also that editing logistic group would be woking with the undo button.
