Putting a plan in a book

Post by SANTIMEL »

Goal
Simplify the gameplay
Situation
It would be convenient and intuitive to put plans in a book, in all the usual way.
Decision
It is worth placing a blueprint in a book, by simply dragging the mouse.

Not sure what you're getting at.

You can already put blueprints in a blueprint book.

You can also put a blueprint book inside another blueprint book.

What are you wanting to do?

Just a slight simplification of the gameplay.

This way of interaction will be more understandable to new players.

1. Dragged the plan onto the book
2. Let go
3. The drawing will be in the book, in the first free slot.
or
4. The book opens, and the player places the plan wherever he pleases.

Simple drag and drop.

Current way of taking a blueprint or a book from one's library to move it into a book is pretty unintuitive : pick the item you want to move, right click the book you want to move it into to open it, and then place the blueprint.

On the other hand, the way things currently work make reorganising the library far easier. I think I prefer the current way to the alternative "drag and drop" mechanism OP suggests.

Maybe some middle ground could be : select blueprint with left click, and then left clicking on a book swaps the held object (same as today), but right click would place the hand's content into the moused over book.

The thing about drag-and-drop, though, is that it's harder to control, which means it's easier to accidentally drop somewhere you didn't mean to. Now you have to go find what you dropped.

Plus, blueprints are put at a specific position in a book. Drag-and-drop doesn't give you the chance to decide where or in what order to put the blueprints. They'll just go at the end, whether or not that makes sense.

Hmm, I get the idea, but not sure I support. How do you handle if you want to swap a book and a print, not nest them? Also, as was mentioned just above, you often want to sort your blueprints, too, so this doesn't really save you anything as you'd still need to open it and move em around, so Koub's suggestion of right-click places in doesn't help, either. Maybe if holding a modifier key? But then I feel like we're just starting to get out there....

For example, you can do this:

- To swap the plan and the book. We need to drag the book onto the plan.
- To put the plan in the book. We need to drag the plan onto the book.

- Control of which cell to place the plan in:
1. Drag the plan over the book.
2. Release the clamped mouse button.
4. In this case, the book should open.
In this case, the plan should remain in the cursor.
5. Next, which cell the user clicks on. That's where the plan will be placed.

Or

Dragging the plan, with the right mouse button held down. When you hover the plan over the book, after a second, it should open. For the subsequent placement of the plan in the desired cell.

To do this, you need to fix it. So that the plan does not open by clicking the right mouse button. But when you release this mouse button.

Although it would be much more logical to make the plan open when you release the left mouse button.

In my opinion, the behavior should be consistent regardless of which item you start with, otherwise this creates confusion. Also, and I forgot about this before, what about book to book? You can place books inside of books, and you can swap them.

No, I'm still not sold on this.
