When connected to a server, there are two minor issues with scrolling through blueprint books (or copy/paste history):
  • There's a delay of about a second after scrolling, presumably due to ping.
  • Occasionally it zooms the map instead of changing blueprints, despite holding shift. This seems to happen more when you scroll quickly and when ping is high.
(these seem like symptoms of the same bug; should I separate this into two posts?)

Maybe there's a deep reason why scroll position in blueprint books needs to by synced with the server, but it's not obvious to me. The delay makes working with blueprint books significantly more frustrating in multplayer.

Some more seemingly related strange behaviors; I'm not sure which of these are bugs, or whether they're all the same bug. This all only happens in multiplayer, and the delays seem to be from ping.
  • When changing the contents of the cursor, in most cases it visually changes immediately, but the sound indicating the change only plays after a delay. In most cases, you can use the new cursor item immediately, evenmbefore the sound plays.
  • When you use multiple spidertron remotes in quick succession, sometimes commands don't register.
  • As noted above, scrolling blueprint books has a delay and sometimes instead zooms.
  • When switching the cursor between a blueprint and a non-blueprint item, briefly both the blueprint and non-blueprint are shown at the cursor. For instance, if I have landfill in my cursor and press a number key to switch to a blueprint, I temporarily see the blueprint with the landfill icon superimposed (if in map view).
  • The above bullet depends on whether the non-blueprint item is a ghost (i.e. whether you have it in your inventory). There's a delay when switching blueprint -> ghost, blueprint -> normal item, and ghost -> blueprint, but not normal item -> blueprint or the other combinations.
  • In normal view, the above bullets look like this: When switching blueprint -> ghost or ghost -> blueprint, you briefly see both the blueprint and the ghost icon. When switching blueprint -> normal item, you briefly see both the blueprint and the number of the normal item if the blueprint doesn't have a name.
  • When a blueprint or ghost item is in the cursor, and you press a number key corresponding to an empty slot to clear the cursor, there's the same delay before the cursor is cleared.
  • When you try to swap spidertron remotes (see this bug), the color briefly changes. Specifically: if I have a white remote in the cursor and I click on a black remote, the cursor temporarily appears to have a black remote, and then switches back to white. There's no sound.
  • The same as the above bullet happens when trying to swap an item with a damaged copy of the same item.
  • Put in your cursor an item you only have one stack of. In quick succession, press Q (clear the cursor) and a number key to bring the item back. Temporarily, the item is a ghost, and then it returns to being a normal item. If you had between 1 and 2 stacks of the item, the number next to the cursor is temporarily the amount past the first stack you have.

Thanks for the report. All of what you describe is due to multiplayer latency.

We may add more logic to latency hiding but it's always tricky and not a bug when we don't include something.
