Definitely a needed feature with the new implementation of the tool belt

Re: [0.17.x] Save and Load Quickbar Layouts like blueprints
Since Quickbars now consist of filters rather than actual items (and thus don't require you to have any particular items in your inventory), some way of re-using Quickbar setups in a new game would be very welcome.
If mods weren't per-game, then I would say Quickbar setups should be part of Factorio's global configuration. As it stands, a blueprint-like approach makes a lot of sense.

My current goal for myself is to beat the game in under 15 hours. I would love it if I could play through the entire game once and determine the best quickbar layout for each section of the game and then use that set up in my speed run. As it is now I need to memorize the set up and reset my quickbars at the start of my speed run.

I catch myself on reprogramming same quickbar layout every time.
For me it could be as well stored globally for my instalation.

[0.17.4] Persistent toolbelt settings
New toolbelt is great.
Minor inconsistency with it though.
The shortcut-bar (far right of toolbelt) maintains it's settings between saves. i.e which buttons are available to the player
The toolbelt does not retain any settings.
I would suggest that the toolbelt *should* retain settings, i.e which item is placed in which slot, with a reset belt button for each belt (0-9).
Edit: Perhaps have an extra setting in "interface" or "other" which sets the default to "empty toolbelts on new game".

To tide you over, or replace the need entirely(maybe?), I wrote a mod that works like blueprint strings but for the quickbar. You can take a look here.
Re: [0.17.x] Save and Load Quickbar Layouts like blueprints
Well done, Therenas! I'm in the process of installing it right now.
I would say that I do feel that this should still be in vanilla. In fact I'm talking about it to a guy on Discord right now, and his first response was "It's great that there's a mod, but I don't want to lose my Steam achievements."
And the fact that any feature that potentially benefits from sharing of data - in this case, presets that people could share to get suggested quickbar setups for various situations - is always benefited by everyone being able to participate, not just those who have the mod.
But none of that should take away from your creation of this mod. If the devs do implement this feature I am sure it won't be for at least weeks, and probably more like it'll be months. And now we have a way of saving presets right now, which is really awesome.
Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I agree that some form of this should end up in the game, and the devs will surely do a great job at it.TheBloke wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 3:53 pm

I've had some thoughts for more features that probably extend out of the scope of the base game, but for the moment we'll see how it shakes out and whether there will be anything a mod could sensibly build on in the future.

Yes please!
This isn't such a big deal in singleplayer since we tend to stick to a savegame for a while - but in multiplayer it's a nuisance as I switch servers fairly regularly. Setting up my quickbar 5 times a night is an un-necessary hassle

This must be the top desired feature for me to be added to the game, instead of a mod.
I really hope this will be included!

Or maybe an export/import string function so you can save it locally or share with others...
(That probably would require the least code, too)

Re: [0.17.x] Save and Load Quickbar Layouts like blueprints
also agree that this should be a feature, ive spent at least 2 hours just trying to remember what my toolbar was
Export/Import player toolbar settings
TL;DR
Allow the export and import of toolbar settingsWhat ?
With up to 10 player toolbars, there is a huge amount of flexibility in having different toolbars for different purposes (mining, oil, fighting, etc.) They can take a while to set up. It would be nice if I could export the settings, so I can immediately set them again by importing them on a new map.Why ?
It's a nice to have, for the lazy, like me.Re: Export/Import player toolbar settings
+1 for adding settings to vanilla Factorio.
Until then... there-is-also-a-mod™ QuickBar Import/Export

Re: Export/Import player toolbar settings
The feature is lacking in Vanilla.
Or this alternative mod, more conveniently to use by utilizing blueprints (although this limits the use when blueprints themselves are set in the quickbar)
