Here are some additional ideas for research techs. Some infinite, some not.

Defensive building health: A 10% hp bonus and an integer resistance bonus per tier, applied to walls and turrets.
Global health bonus: A small (~5%) hp bonus to all buildings. Finite research only.
Logistics robot battery: Increases battery capacity by, say, 20% per tier.
Robot charge rate: Increases charge rate of robots at roboports and personal roboports. Research cost and bonus should match that of the robot battery upgrade above.
Combat robot lifetime bonus: ~+10 seconds per tier. I see no reason why this couldn't be an infinite tech.
Turret range bonus: A small (maybe +1 per tier) bonus to turret range. Strictly finite research, otherwise it would become way overpowered.
Optimal stacking: Once off research that gives +10 extra inventory slots in chests and train carriages.
Increased ammo capacity: Magazines have +20% capacity per tier for 5 tiers total research (meaning firearm magazines etc would get +2 bullets per tier and end with 20 bullets at the highest tier)
Vehicle health and armour bonuses: percentage bonuses to car and tank hp and integer bonuses to resistances.
Rocket and cannon blast radius bonus: Integer bonus to blast radii of explosive rockets, shells and atomic bombs. Finite research only.
Additional module slot: Every building that has module slots receives an extra slot. Assembler 3 and launch pad now have 5, refineries, chemical plants and miners now have 4, Beacons, electric furnaces and assembler II now have 3, etc. Perhaps some non-module buildings like the assembler I and steel furnace receive a single slot. This is quite powerful and would need to be behind some steep research requirements (Hi-tech and x2000 research at the least, I reckon)
Radar range: Increases the range of radar and the rate of sector scanning.


I'll admit that some of these technologies may appear frivolous, as the player already has a pretty sizeable advantage over the biters late game. Others, such as the logistic robot bonuses, I expect people would find quite useful.
