Turret Slots

Post by thereaverofdarkness »

Could we get the tanks and their weapons separated? I'd like to be able to select my tank and its guns separately. This would be excellent for modders, so they don't have to make fifteen different kinds of tank just to give the player weapon options. The same could be done for defense turrets: you choose a defense turret mount which determines its hit points, tracking rate, power usage, and modifiers for damage, fire rate, and range. Then you put a weapon in the mount to determine your base damage, rate of fire, and range as well as the ammo type you use and the type of damage dealt.

Examples:

Basic turret has a small weapon mount and 100% damage bonus plus a small range bonus. Any small mount can be equipped with any handheld weapon; if you put an assault rifle in it you get something identical to the original Gun Turret.

Advanced turret has a medium weapon mount and 50% damage bonus. You can mount handheld weapons in it and it has more health than the basic turret but it tracks slower and has a smaller damage bonus. Instead, it can mount medium weapons like the laser turret weapon.

Heavy Turret has a large weapon mount and no damage bonus, also tracks slowly. It has a lot of health and is capable of mounting the heaviest weapons, like the original tank cannon.

Car has a small weapon mount with no damage bonus. You can use any weapon from in the car that you could have used on foot.

Light tank has a small weapon mount and 50% damage and range bonus. Maneuverable but armored, and with decent combat capability, a good early option for engaging biters in combat.

Medium tank has a large weapon mount and a small weapon mount, no damage bonus. If you load it with an assault rifle and cannon, it is identical to the original tank.

Heavy tank has two large weapon mounts, a medium weapon mount, and a small weapon mount. The medium mount gets a 50% range bonus and the small mount gets a 50% damage and 100% range bonus. All of its weapons are highly effective in combat, and you can fit an array of weapons for any situation. It is also very heavily armored, but quite slow moving and expensive.

Truck has a small weapon mount with 50% damage bonus but the weapon autofires and cannot be controlled by the player, which frees you up to focus on driving. It's a large, lightly armored vehicle with very high item storage capacity (multiple inventory tabs). It turns slow and in wide circles and cannot turn in place, accelerates slowly but can get up to a pretty high speed, and has limited tree-crushing capacity. Useful as an alternative to trains for when your shipping needs are less planned, more on the spur of the moment, or to bring goods to a new facility which you've only partially completed clearing the path.

Heavy turret car is a train car with two medium mounts that auto-fire at any enemies which attack the train while it is at station or otherwise stopped/moving slow.

Reinforced turret car has two small mounts with 50% range and damage bonus. Potentially same power as heavy turret car, but ammo and weapon options are different and it tracks enemies faster.

Turret options:
Small: all handheld weapons

Medium
Laser turret
Flamethrower turret
Gatling gun--uses unique ammo made for the gatling gun which receives bullet upgrades
Rocket turret--more powerful rockets than handheld launcher, also target-seeking and with a wider explosion radius

Large
Cannon turret--penetrating shots, excellent for getting through heavy armor
Multi-rocket turret--fires multiple turret rockets at once, slow reload but devastates a large area
Heavy Laser turret--I'm sure everyone wants one of these (maybe it's a laser shotgun?)
