quick mod add for multiplayer games

Post by pendar »

idea: Make multiplayer games with mods really easy to join
how: Make a right click for the mods in the multiplayer (or a button) that when clicked will automatically start the loading of the mod from the available lists.
reasoning: With many servers having needs of many mods and mods having to be added one at a time unless you know exactly were the mod pack is it is a real pain to look at the list remember one or more mod names, go to the mod download thing then back to the games list to get the next mod or set of mods to start loading.

expansion of idea: so i like that the ones you dont have are in red, maybe add a new colour (say purple) and implement like this, if a mod is easily addable by the mods section but you dont have it keep it red, if the mod is something not listed in the mods section or not available (say for a new experimental version of the mod) and you have to manually install it make it show up purple. this is were i think a simple right click (or button) to add the mods required for that server would be awesome to have. i dont know how mods are checked before hand so maybe a diffrent color again to handle mod version mismatch (say orange to show if you have the 12.1 mod version but server is running say 13.2)

hope that was laid out well and simple enough to understand

Currently not possible for a couple of reasons.
1. The game needs to download the mods (IF they are available on the mod portal) And then restart.
2. Currently, due to people using a config.lua system, the same mod might be different content set.

Factorio version 0.15 does plan to solve some of these issues, point 2 is going to have a full configuration menu built into the game, with options that are transmitted to multiplayer clients. Point 2 will also most likely become automatic as well, but as far as I know, once the mods and settings have been installed, a restart will still be required.
