launching satellite benefit? satellite surveillance system

I wonder if anyone ever suggested this before. Launching rockets with the satellite in it should have a benefit. Not only a way of clearing the game. I think it would be great if there's more function to this. Like a surveillance system. Basically a radar but at a large area. Maybe craft a satellite laser beacon to decide the location of the radar range. Or some other benefit, maybe laser from orbit to strike, or something like launching an iron pole that equals to a small nuclear explosion. What do you guys think?
