It would be convenient if we could press RMB for the starting point of a conveyor belt and release it for the ending point (like with rails in development).
Much less of human errors, I suppose.
Probably just use "direct path", not avoiding obstacles, maybe with underground belts where necessary.
Might be convenient to allow NumPad+/- for increasing and decreasing width of the "combined" belt too.
Is it possible?
P.S. I mean something like this, but with belts:
Laying long belts easier?

Re: Laying long belts easier?
My thought: The train-track building is the most complicated stuff in Factorio.
So, when it's possible to built tracks, then it is also possible to add such a build for
- walls (simple)
- poles (also simple)
- belts (not as easy)
- pipes (more complex)
- roads/streets (as complex as tracks)
- and any other entity, that can be built in a (more or less straight) line.
The "walk and built" is then not needed anymore.
So because of that lower complexity for building other entities in a "line" I think we will become as a nice surprise some of the above as "late eastereggs" for v0.13. But I'm really just thinking loud.

Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.
