Hi,
at the moment inserters are never taking from the input containers of a machine. I would propose a "greedy inserter" which simply looks what item types which are demanded from it (by a machine or container) and simply grabs everything it can get of that item types including the input container of machines. This would help to build up more efficient assembly lines, e.g. one gear-machine could directly feed two red-pack-machines because a greedy inserter can take the gears from one red-pack-machine and put it into another. I propose to place the greedy inserter after the fast inserter in the assembly hierarchy. It should be as fast as the fast inserter and it should be able to grab from 1 and 2 tiles distance (because it is so damn greedy).
What do you think?

Re: Greedy Inserter
Just put the gear machine between the two red pack machines, no need for new type of insterter.
