TL;DR
Add a gas giant planet that can be explored and used for gas and asteroid collecting.
What ?
Map
Asteroids of various sizes would be obstacles, defenses, and full of rich resources(they could also respawn/be renewable). Asteroids could move, not too far or fast, but would create a mobile outpost/enemy base. The underlining map could be like other planets, but invisible. You would see the giant planet in the background and you would build on platform(s) and asteroids above it. There could be some massive areas so dense with huge asteroids, that you could build there like normal, with cracks separating them like space rivers/cliffs.

There could be changing storms on the surface which could start a temporary rich resource source.
The planet could be on a highly eccentric orbit. Causing periods of high and low temperature affecting things such as; enemy activity/aggressiveness, gas spouts, surface storms, and meteoroid showers.

Resources
Unique resource harvesting, gases and floating rocks. Gas harvesters for resources, sensors that you follow the signal of to find where resources are spouting up towards the platform. Possible resources; helium, hydrogen, methane, and (iron, water, stone, and coal from asteroids). Maybe an endgame drill for harvesting liquid hydrogen and/or iron-nickel alloy from the core? https://science.nasa.gov/resource/gas-g ... iors-2003/

Defense/Combat
Possibly meteoroid storms/showers. If in an unprotected area they will cause damage, but can also be harvested for valuable resources.
Flying/floating enemies. They base in/on large/huge asteroids. Destroying all the nests would destroy the asteroid giving collectable resources. The nests expand by gravity attracting new nearby rocks making it larger.
Mortar enemy, the largest mortar enemy could launch a pod/asteroid fill with smaller enemies as an incursion.
Big gas-filled balloon enemy, explodes when killed dealing area damage, but also giving resources.
A large part of resource gathering could be done with combat.

Structures/buildings
Gas harvester, including a giant one that is hole straight down through platform.
Gas spout sensor that detects where a gas is shooting up from the surface high enough to harvest.
Giant-asteroid miner, maybe like a drone depot, drones do the mining and take it back.
Rail gun and net? Idk. Resource/item delivery system across large gaps.
Laser for transmitting power to remote locations. Like those that have been proposed irl for space craft.
Wind turbines, could be placed on gas spouts instead of harvesting them, for power.
Why ?
In FFF #387, describing how many planets and why. A gas giant planet would fit all the requirements.
Unique in the way you approach it, build on(?) above it, harvest resources, manage layout and resource management, and encounter enemies. Gas resources would take advantage of Fluids 2.0. Factory building would make great use of the platform system. Shattered and floating map with flying enemies would be unlike anything else seen so far.
