More control over day/night cycle

I am trying to update https://mods.factorio.com/mods/sparr/axial-tilt to use the new LuaSurface settings for morning/dawn/dusk/evening but they aren't quite powerful enough. I need a way to have a game day that's mostly dark with a rise to half-dawn light level then back down to dark again, or a day that's mostly daytime with a drop to half-dusk then back to light. Currently I'm doing a lot of arithmetic very often to set .daytime to skip parts of the cycle, but that's not a great solution. Maybe an option for max_brightness or max_darkness that will cap one or both ends of the transition as well as make daytime darker or night time brighter?
