Think its this line of JSON in the info json file:
{
"file": "__PATH__read-data__\/..\/tests\/run-tests-x64.bat",
"action": "differs",
"old_crc": "3143058977",
"crc": "1261141452"
},

Just a wild guess though.

I'm getting the same requester when I go to update Factorio. I hope the devs are fixing their autopatcher, as I really don't like messing around in unfamiliar software installers or their components.

Cheers ...

It's a known problem that the autopatcher failed and the workaround so far is to uninstall the game and reinstall or to just download the zip archive and replace the old install and all files with the ones from the zip archive.
Autoupdating might be fixed with 0.12.1 but who knows

Thanks for the report.
I just tested updating from fresh install of 0.11.22 to 0.12 and it worked fine. I don't know why you were missing tests folder in your Factorio directory. I am glad you solved it.

For anyone who has problem with update - uninstalling and dowloading new version from website is the only solution. But let us know that you had problem with updating, so we know how widespread the issue is.

Thanks! That did indeed fix my problem, as if you download the updater from the website, it will automatically uninstall the previous version of Factorio you may have installed on your system, and install the new version.

I think there should be some sort of automated feedback report so that, for instance, if the automatic updater encounters a problem it should automatically file a report to the Factorio devs so they could fix it, where possible, without people making errors reporting what they think is the problem, or in the case of more severe errors, tell the user they need to check or update something on their system. Perhaps I'll find where to post that if I get the time, I'm usually too busy playing Factorio! :D

Cheers ...

Yea ive been playing for a while now (before the auto-patcher came out) so might have just been a fluke because of the older file base.

I had this problem as well ("Error when opening C:/Program Files\Factorio\data/../tests/run-tests-x64.bat for reading: No such file or directory"). That tests/ directory exists, but there is no batch file in that directory. Actually, there are no files at all, just an x64/ directory (and that's it).

I think I will have to download a fresh install then.

That was a bug that we hope to fix in the next versions.
