Hi,
I was wondering if people were interested in a factorio hosting service?
Basically a service where you can order a factorio server (possibly with a list of available mods) with a number of slots that can be used.
You'll be able to select a region where the server is rolled out so you can select a region close to you / the majority of your players.
Right now I don't know yet what kind of costs per slot will be charged, but of course i'll keep it as low as possible.
Would you be interested in a service like that?
If so, what price would you consider fair?

3€ monthly / 20€ one year if paid in advance would be fair.dratone wrote:Hi,

A winner list would attract teams to fight for a good placement.
And on the sideline that would be a peace project as it brings folks together worldwide

That's way too cheap for a game as CPU intensive as factorio. You'd probably get a garbage vps for that price that lags behind on a normal sized factory.brunzenstein wrote:3€ monthly / 20€ one year if paid in advance would be fair.

It depends on the quantity. If Factorio gets 50,000 gamers en block, and is not a unreasonable expecation, then the price is OK. If only 500 are interested then you're right.Zeblote wrote:That's way too cheap for a game as CPU intensive as factorio. 50000 people buying a server would be every 10th person who bought the game... I don't think that's happening

Factorio sold by a factor of many the figure you mentioned.Zeblote wrote:50000 people buying a server would be every 10th person who bought the game... I don't think that's happening

I'm going by the number shown on steamspy:brunzenstein wrote:Factorio sold by a factor of many the figure you mentioned.Zeblote wrote:50000 people buying a server would be every 10th person who bought the game... I don't think that's happening
It's not that accurate, but pretty close most of the time. Do you have access to better statistics?
A lot of the people who bought the game on the website probably activated it on steam too, so both combined we get a little over 500k.

It's not 50.000 but close to 500.000. - look again
Re: Interest in factorio hosting service?
But... that's what I said? You mentioned 50000 people buying a server, which I think is unrealistic because that would be 1/10 of everyone who ever bought the game.brunzenstein wrote:It's not 50.000 but close to 500.000. - look again

Correct. Sorry for my mistake.Zeblote wrote:But... that's what I said? You mentioned 50000 people buying a server, which I think is unrealistic because that would be 1/10 of everyone who ever bought the game.brunzenstein wrote:It's not 50.000 but close to 500.000. - look again
Every 1/10 is not so unrealistic as this game is only bought by people (having tried the trial version before) who have a high addiction factor towards.
Even 1/50 may work commercial positive. Think about the side beneficials in PR.
I may be wrong. But the only way to find out is to try
