Can't establish connection

Can someone please take me through the steps it takes for a friend and I to connect a 2 player game over the internet?

I'm having trouble finding much in the way of actually connecting to the game in the wiki, and everybody here seems to be able to connect fine...

Easier said than done... My friend and I played for 9 hours today (with multiple reconnects in between), and now nothing we try works. It's due to some factor that we haven't been able to determine.

Things that might be worth a try:

• forwarding UDP Port 34197
• Reinstall
• Turn off firewall
• Restart Computer
• Make sure you both have same bit-variant (32-bit or 64-bit)

Hmm, must be the game on our end as well, we've tried each suggestion

You can try using a virtual VPN network such as Hamachi or Tunngle. My friend and I have tried using Tunngle and it works, but I haven't tested Hamachi.
